Father God, the God of love, we come to You asking to bless us to love as You do. Bless our faith today to grow in grace and love, AMEN. O Lord my God, my heart is filled with admiration, wonder, thanks, and praise. Your plan to redeem me from my sins and adopt me into your family comes at such a high cost to you and Jesus. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for redeeming me from the debt of sin. Thank you for dying to prevent death's power controlling me. Thank you for Your love for me and this whole world. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you!

1.      How would you explain the difference between eros, phileo and agape love?

a.)  Eros is the kind of love that is based on the physical traits. And unless it is redeemed by the Lord’s presence; this type of love can end up being possessive, since it always seeks to 1st conquer and then control.  

b.) Phileo is a unique kind of love like the one you have for a companion or pal. It refers to loving one another just like your brother or sister.

c.) Agape is the divine love of Jesus and the Father.

2.     What is unconditional love? How do you show this kind of love to others?

According to the book Real Love, unconditional love is, in essence, true love -- so different from the kind of love most of us have known all our lives that it deserves adefinition of its own. Unconditional love is caring about the happiness of another person without any thought for what we might get for ourselves.

 

3.     What does Romans 8:35-39 tell us about God's love?

It means Christ loves you and there is nothing that can ever make him stop. Once you are a Christian "in Christ", you are totally safe with regard to salvation. The love of God is provided by the power of God, and nothing is strong enough to force you away from that love. Not even your own sin, for example. It is a verse of assurance. After all, if you aren't saved from your own sin, you aren't really saved at all.

You can't really get all of that from just this verse, but when you read the whole bible, and all of the verses related to this issue, that is the picture that emerges.

The Bible says that God is love, which makes it the perfect source to learn how to love others, even those who are difficult for us to. Our world has skewed the meaning of true love but God's Word remains a steadfast, true source of knowledge on how to love. Read the below scripture from the Holy Bible about love in relation to God, Jesus Christ, and the Christian faith and begin seeing the change in your heart and mind!

(Proverbs 17:17)

“¹⁷ A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”

 

I believe this one is speaking of Philia’s love. This is the type of love that David and Johnathan had and was about as intense as it can be outside of the love that God displays. These two men would have died for one other. This love produces a bond that eros and storge love cannot compare with. This is the love that Christians are commanded to have for one another (Rom 12; 1 Cor 13)

God Loved you before you were born:

 

God’s love for you is eternal. He loved you before you were born, lovingly shaping you in your mother’s womb. You were fearfully and wonderfully made by the God of love who ordained your days before they ever came to pass (Psalm 139:13-16). You were loved from your very beginning by the eternal God of love.

This Week's Prayer:

 

Father God, I come into your presence so aware of my human frailty and yet overwhelmed by your love for me. I thank you that there is no human experience that I might walk through where your love cannot reach me. If I climb the highest mountain you are there and yet if I find myself in the darkest valley of my life, you are there. Teach me today to love you more. Help me to rest in that love that asks nothing more than the simple trusting heart of a child. Father, as we study on Your love bless us to remember that You first loved us. Give us this day our daily bread as we study this lesson on love. We praise and thank You for all You have done for us. Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart be accepted in You sight O Lord, our help and our strength. In Jesus name, Amen
